Q. In-plant cells, the turgidity, and rigidity is provided by
  1. ribosomes
  2. mitochondria
  3. Golgi apparatus
  4. vacuoles full of cell sap
Answer: vacuoles full of cell sap

Turgidity and Rigidity in plants are made possible by the presence of the cell wall and the osmoregulatory function of the vacuole. The cell wall protects the cell from cell lysis due to high water influx while the vacuole regulates solute concentration to incite the osmotic movement of water into and out of the cell.

A vacuole is a membrane-bound, multifunctional organelle found in the cells of plants (including algae and fungi) and some protists and bacteria. Vacuoles are acidic in nature and share some basic properties with lysosomes that are predominantly found in plant cells.

The size and shape of vacuoles may vary. The vacuoles have varying functions as well. One of them is to serve as a compartment. A vacuole may contain water (especially in plant cells), waste products, and small molecules. It is an essential way to isolate materials that may be harmful to the cell. In-plant cells wherein vacuoles are relatively large, the vacuole maintains internal hydrostatic pressure inside the cell and thereby helps plants by providing support to plant structures such as leaves and flowers. The vacuole also serves as storage vesicle in seeds. It stores proteins essential for seed germination.

Q. The vacuoles in the cells are filled up with
  1. Water
  2. Cell sap
  3. Protoplasm
  4. Gases
Answer: Cell Sap
In a plant cell, turgidity and rigidity are provided by its vacuole as a vacuole in a plant cell contain cell sap composed of water, minerals, salts and some enzymes too. Vacuole itself covers more than 90% of the area of a plant cell.
