Karikala was a Tamil Chola king who ruled southern India. He is credited with the conquest of the whole of India up to the Himalayas and the construction of the flood banks of the river Kaveri. He is recognized as the greatest of the Early Cholas.
Puhar was founded by Chola King Karikala Puhar served as the capital of the early Chola kings.
Puhar (also known as Poompuhar) is a town in the Nagapattinam district in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It was once a flourishing ancient port city known as Kaveri poompattinam, which for a while served as the capital of the Early Chola kings in Tamilakam. Puhar is located near the endpoint of the Kaveri river, aside the sea coast. It is mentioned in the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea.
