Q. If the ratio of the sum and difference of the two numbers is 8:3, what is the ratio of two numbers?

Answer: 11:5

Solution:

Let the numbers are x & y

Also x>y

From the question:

$\frac{x + y}{x - y} = \frac{8}{3}$

by solving the above equation, we get

$3x + 3y = 8x - 8y$

$5x = 11y$

$\frac{x}{y} = \frac{11}{5}$

hence the ratio of numbers is 11:5
