The History of Jaunpur has a significant value and has a historical importance to it. History of Jaunpur dates back to 1388, during which period the Sultan of Delhi, Feroz Shah Tughlaq appointed a eunuch in the name of Malik Sarwar as the governor of the region.
Jaunpur city of India was known as "Shiraz of East". Jaunpur historically known as "Shiraz-e-Hind" or "Shiraz of East" having its historical dates from 1359, when the city was founded by the Sultan of Delhi Feroz Shah Tughlaq and named in memory of his cousin, Muhammad bin Tughluq, whose given name was Jauna Khan.

  1. इस शहर की स्थापना 14वीं शताब्दी में फिरोज शाह तुगलक ने अपने चचेरे भाई मुहम्मद बिन तुगलक की याद में की थी जिसका वास्तविक नाम जौना खां था। इसी कारण इस शहर का नाम जौनपुर रखा गया। 1394 के आसपास मलिक सरवर ने जौनपुर को शर्की साम्राज्य के रूप में स्थापित किया। शर्की शासक कला प्रेमी थे। उनके काल में यहां अनेक मकबरों, मस्जिदों और मदरसों का निर्माण किया गया। यह शहर मुस्लिम संस्कृति और शिक्षा के केन्द्र के रूप में भी जाना जाता है। यहां की अनेक खूबसूरत इमारतें अपने अतीत की कहानियां कहती प्रतीत होती हैं। वर्तमान में यह शहर चमेली के तेल, तम्बाकू की पत्तियों, इमरती और स्वीटमीट के लिए लिए प्रसिद्ध है।
