Largest Gap in Male and Female Literacy
The State with the largest gap in male and female literacy is-
- Rajasthan
- Kerala
- Uttar Pradesh
- Madhya Pradesh
Literacy rate in India is uneven and as such, different States and Union Territories of India have differences in their literacy rates. The following table shows the 2011 and 2001 census data on total literacy rate, male literacy rate, female literacy rate and the decadal difference in percentage.
According to Census 2011, Kerala has the highest total literacy rate and female literacy rate whereas Lakshadweep had the highest male literacy rate. Bihar has the lowest total literacy rate and male literacy rates while Rajasthan has the lowest female literacy rate.
Rajasthan also holds the dubious distinction of having the highest difference in male-female literacy in the country at 28%, against the national average of 16.7%.

ReplyDeleteIndia is a country with high gender disparity in literacy. As per Census 2011, overall literacy rate of India is 74.04% whereas the male and female literacy rate is 82.14% and 65.46% respectively.
According to the Census 2011 data, Kerala has the highest female literacy rate of 92.07% where as Bihar has the lowest female literacy rate of 51.50 %.
In Rajasthan male literacy rate is 79.11% and female literacy
is 52.12% respectively.
Male-female literacy gap is highest in Rajasthan.
